His birthday was a total chill day after our busy Broadmoor weekend and Zoo day the day before. We tried to feed him foods he loves all day -- oatmeal for breakfast and mac and cheese for lunch and pizza for dinner. The boys were extra sweet to him, and he didn't seem to mind that we made Jaren's birthday balloons work for one more special day ;)
He had a sad little spill the day of his birthday and tumbled down our last two stairs :( I felt so bad for him! Biggest goose egg any of my kids have ever had, and on his birthday too. He was pretty sad and kept saying ow but took a good nap and it looked better pretty quickly. Crazy how big those bumps can become so fast though.
That night we baked pizzas and chocolate chip cookies and he had fun blowing out his candles and opening gifts from grandparents. Camden is such a sweet boy. He's an observer and clingy and slow to warm up to people, but he makes us laugh so so much. I love when he says "huggy?" and comes over for a big squeeze, putting him to bed (on his good nights haha), watching him just totally love on Michael and follow him most everywhere, hearing him call both his brothers "Benny", seeing him be soft to Kitty, his excited face, when he calls his cousin Elise "baby" on FaceTime or himself anytime he sees his reflection, when he lines up his cars on the sofa or my bed and is content by himself for juuuust a little bit, and when he holds his hand up in the car waiting for me to put a snack in it. He's just a cute little dude and we all just love him. Westin and Bennett are such good big brothers to him and it's the best to watch.
The rest of the week we went to the city pool every day for Westin and Bennett to do swimming lessons. They love them and it's helping Bennett's water fear for sure. They're totally chill lessons that aren't going to get them super far, but they're something and they're fun for them. Then in August they start weekly swimming lessons with just the two of them and a teacher, and we'll continue that into the school year, so they'll make some good progress.
One night this week Michael let Kitty inside, when suddenly I heard him say, "Kitty no, what is that? Come back!" She ran straight upstairs and I just started crying on the couch because, mice. Then there was a loud squeaking and I felt even more sad because, huge rat. Then Michael shut her in our room and yelled downstairs, "There's a baby bunny in our house!" I reached the entryway just in time to see that adorable little thing hop across the floor and take a rest. I wish I saw it make its way downstairs... that had to be an adventure. After it took its little rest we opened the door and it hopped outside and through our grass. What a little sweetie! Michael said, "Man, Kitty, pick on someone your own size." And I couldn't agree more -- can't look at Kitty the same quite yet.
This weekend we went to our stake Pioneer Day party and the boys had so much fun -- a petting zoo, getting their faces painted, skipping the bounce house because of our sweet cousin Grant's summer, eating burgers and hot dogs, watching the pie eating contest, and chatting with people in our ward and stake. We love having a more normal summer than last year's Covid+Moving experience.
Bennett's face after seeing his Spiderman face paint is my favorite -- he just looked like he finally looked the way he felt inside with this ultra serious satisfaction. So funny. I love these boys!
