Catch Up: October

My 2016 unintentionally became "The Year I Never Blogged"
because it intentionally became "The Year I Learned How to Be a Mom,"
and I hate the empty space over in those little drop-down year menus to your right.
So, each month is getting a retroactive rewind post.

October:

Welcome Baby Bennett!

Bennett Steven Daetwyler

8lbs 3 oz
20 3/4 in long

On October 3rd, my due date, we went to the hospital for a scheduled c-section. I had hoped to go into labor before this day and try for a VBAC, but I was worried if I went past my due date Bennett would be too big like Westin was to fit through my platypelloid pelvis. My doctor was just never very supportive of this, though he never had a reason. He said we should go through with the c-section that morning, and I regret that because Bennett was facing the right direction (Westin was face up) and almost a pound smaller than Westin was. But in the end, he's here and healthy and we are so grateful. Those days in the hospital are always rough, and we were so grateful to Ali for taking such good care of Westin.

We also had both sets of grandparents visit us that month, and Michael took a couple days off as well. We were so lucky to have so many helpful visitors around that we love! They were all so good to us and Westin was so happy to have his favorite people around.

Bennett loved to be awake from about 10pm to 1am each night, and was fussy every single time he pooped or passed gas. He needed a lot of emotional support :) He looked different from Westin from the start and seemed to have such an old soul feel about him. It is so much fun to meet your babies. Nursing was painful again but we pushed through and ended up figuring it out after a couple months. Babies are so much work! Some people love the newborn stage but both times it has really stretched both Michael and me. But it is oh so worth it.

We loved those first weeks of having Bennett straight from heaven in our home!

It was so fun to be pregnant with Emily! She's just a couple weeks away from her due date here.

We took a trip to Sequoia National Park with my mom while she was here.
I just did half of an easy hike but it felt good to be outside!

Our ward Halloween party felt like our first family outing, after visitors.
